20 Things You Didn't Know About Dermot O’Leary
That title may be misleading because frankly I have no idea how much or how little you know about Dermot O’Leary.
You may be a crazed stalker or you may be Dermot himself, in which case here are 20 facts you definitely knew about everyone’s favourite shiny-suit wearing, disco-dancing Saturday night presenter.
To be honest even if you aren’t a super-fan you probably know about half of these. Whatever, just have a quick read after the jump!
1 His real first name is Seán, his middle name is Dermot.
2 His mum and dad are from Wexford and Dermot would visit Ireland every summer as a child.
3 He has dual Irish and British citizenship and says “I’ve always had an Irish passport and obviously growing up in Essex is different from growing up in Limerick or Tipperary or Wexford but I’m still Irish. To me there’s no difference between being second-generation Irish and second-generation Asian.”
4 He played American Football as a teenager for the Colchester Gladiators.
5 He has a 2.2 in Media Technology and Politics from Middlesex University.
6 While studying there he was a member of the chess society.
7 Before presenting his was a runner on the show ‘Light Lunch’, presented by Mel and Sue who now host ‘The Great British Bake-Off’.
8 Alongside Omar Gurnah and Fran Lee, Dermot was one of the original T4 presenters in 1998.
9 He then worked on Big Brother’s Little Brother from 2001 to 2008 and as Louis Walsh would say he ‘made it his own’.
10 While hosting The X Factor he reportedly upset Celine Dion by cutting her off as she was rambling on and praising every single act on the show.
11 He was the last person to introduce Michael Jackson before his death.
12 He has said a few times that he’d be interested in hosting the Irish ‘lovely girls’ competition ‘The Rose of Tralee’.
13 Dermot supports Arsenal and Celtic, when it comes to rugby London Irish are his team, and he supports Wexford in the GAA (naturally).
14 He was an usher as Holly Willoughby’s wedding.
15 He won GQ’s ‘most stylish man of the year’ award in 2012.
16 Dermot is a practising Roman Catholic and has written about why he sticks with the faith.
17 His wife Dee Koppang was a producer and director on Channel 4′s reality show ‘Shipwrecked’.
18 He recently closed his ‘Fishy Fishy’ restaurant in Poole after two and a half years. He still own another one in Brighton.
